Uffizi: Madonna of the Goldfinch

Painted between 1505 and 1506, this beautiful painting was a wedding gift by the “master” of the High Renaissance – Raphael – to his friend Lorenzo Nasi. Despite a relatively straight-forward subject, this painting is filled with symbols such as the colour of Mary’s robe, or the goldfinch, or the flowers at her feet.
