The Dome of the Florence Cathedral

At the beginning of the 15th century, a hundred years after the construction of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (or the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower), the structure was still missing its dome. No one knew how to build a dome of that size until Filippo Brunelleschi, a goldsmith with no formal training in architecture, came in and proposed his idea on how such a structure could be constructed. A fascinating story about one of Florenceā€™s most important symbols.
