Strozzi Chapel

As you explore Florence, please do not overlook the church of Santa Maria Novella. When you are inside, head to the Strozzi Chapel to see the Last Judgement. On the left-hand side you’ll see Paradise, on the right-hand side – Hell or “Inferno”. And it is the “Inferno” fresco that truly is one of the hidden jewels of Florence. This painting is remarkable for the reason that it’s the very first depiction of hell as described by Dante in his Divine Comedy. Even though severely damaged by time, this evocative vision of hell will surely send a shiver down your spine.
