Certaldo: The Museum of Sacred Art and the Hortus Conclusus

The lovely town of Certaldo is most famous for being the birthplace of Boccaccio, author of The Decameron, but it boasts a number of other wonderful sights as well that can’t be missed. Two favorites are the Museum of Sacred Art, where you’ll see with your own eyes the powerful transformation the Renaissance brought to art, and the adjacent hortus conclusus, or “enclosed garden.” Hear how the garden delightfully embodies ideals of Renaissance beauty, offering space for reflection, repose, and rest.
